Frequently asked questions
How long should a password be?
At least 12 characters for everyday accounts and 16 or more for email, banking and password manager master passwords. Length matters more than complexity.
Are the passwords really random?
Yes. They are created with crypto.getRandomValues, the cryptographically secure generator built into your browser, without modulo bias.
Do you store or see my passwords?
No. Passwords are generated on your device and never sent or saved anywhere.
What does "avoid look-alike characters" do?
It removes characters that are easy to confuse, like l, 1, I, O and 0, which helps when you have to type a password by hand.
What is entropy?
Entropy, in bits, measures how hard a password is to guess. Above 80 bits is strong; above 100 bits is very strong.
